On to the nail stuff!
Today I want to talk to you all about the importance of proper underwear. Now, before you ask what underwear has to do with nails, let me tell you - a lot! If you think about it, in fashion it is important to wear the right undergarment under something sheer or white, so why wouldn't that translate into nail lacquer, right? It does!
I wanted to show you this awesome nail lacquer I picked up during my trip to Poland, see my Polish haul HERE and just look at how pretty this one is in the bottle!
Ever since I owned it I wasn't sure what to put under it to make it look right. Lovely Color Mania 117 is pretty sheer by my standards, so I experimented. That's just the thing, if you bought a lacquer that's great in the bottle and then it ends up being on the sheer side when it's on the nail, just find the right underwear for it or layer!
First I tried Nina Ultra Pro Sailor. It's a great navy blue one-coater! Here it is on its own.
I must say that I discarded the N.Y.C nail lacquer because it's a cheap one, but it turned out to be good. See the post of shown as a NOTD HERE. Now look at how great the Color Mania 117 looks with N.Y.C Pier 17 under it! Much better!
Once again, in the close up, you can see the true beauty of this colour and with the right lacquer under it, I think it looks like what it should have if it had been more opaque. So my lesson here is, do not discard a lacquer because it doesn't look the same on the nail as it does in the bottle, put something under it and experiment!
Hope this post helps someone pull out a beauty that has previously disappointed you and give it another chance.
Till next time!

I tried it and it looked great but I found the combination of the two to be too purple and too dark. I really wanted it to look the way it does in the bottle in the picture above.
Look at the close up, it's so awesome! At fist I thought it was filled with micro glitter, but it's actually micro flakes!?
I'm sure that I'll wear the above combo at some point, but I really wanted to come close to it looking like it does in the bottle.
As my next attempt, I pulled out N.Y.C Pier 17.

wow, this is really beautiful
ReplyDelete@Kristy I know right? I wish I knew that when I was in Europe, I would have gotten a back up.
ReplyDeleteI wanted to say that reading this post stuck with me because I recently purchased a polish that did not apply well and honestly, I was ready to give it away. However, I decided I would keep it and try using white under it - and lo and behold it not only applied very well over white, but it actually made it stand out a bit better than it did without it. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you found the tip helpful. I know many times I've had polishes in my hands that needed to have something under them as they're too sheer on their own. I don't want to have to do too many layers of one polish and if that happens, I try black, white or another complimentary colour under it.
DeleteYou are right, those polishes look great together!
