NOTD: Layla Flash Black

Pin It Now!
On to the nail stuff!

I can't tell you how happy I am to show the you lacquer I have on today. Woot! Did I mention that I'm excited?! I got my grubby little hands on Layla lacquers while visiting Portugal recently, see my haul HERE. For those of you who aren't aware yet, Layla laquers have put out a line of linear holos - YES!

If you're not sure what a holo is, look below - holographic lacquers are amazing, a rainbow on your nails when in the sun. This is Layla Flash Black, a charcoal holo.
As much as I love holos and how awesome they look on the nail, I do have a complaint about these, they do not co-operate without a proper base. They're streaky and clumpy and really difficult to work with. It's too bad that I didn't bring my Nfu-Oh Aqua Base with me on my European trip, it would have been great.
Ah, just look at this beauty, there's rainbows everywhere! I really do love it. I almost wish that I could have been rich enough to buy the whole collection, not just four of these.
I am wondering though, have any of you had luck with these without a proper holo base? What combinations have you done to make the lacquer work with you?

I was lucky enough to have some sun to take these photos to show you, but even without the sun, these shine.
I took one photo in the shade, without sun to show you how great this lacquer is. The rainbow shows in the worst of lights, I really do love that!
Till next time!

    1. Honestly, I thought I could deal with it, but I tried it twice without proper base and each time it was a horror. I do love the outcome but it's not fun.

  10. I was about to buy it, today. I tried it on a wheel, they're gorgeous, that's true. But I thought I could find them cheaper on the net.
In the end, I chose a Zoya (Edyta). :D

    1. Good choice on the Zoya but there's no comparison (in my opinion) to this one around.

  11. I have this color and have tried it over my regular base coats (Essie First Base, Seche Base Coat) and it seemed to work fine. The main trick is to not overlap your strokes when you put on each layer or you will lift up the still wet polish. If you miss a spot, wait til it dries and then put a new coat over any spot you missed.

    1. This has been a great tip, I hope others read it because it does help with the application. You're right, I was lifting some of the still wet polish when trying to even it out before it dried. Not overlapping strokes was hard for me, but I really wanted this to work so I kept trying with better results each time.

  14. Works pretty good without a base coat if you don't have the proper one with you!

  15. Question: are you wearing top coat in these photos? I have heard that top coat can dull holos... but I have also read that this one does ok with top coat.
