Gradient sponging over nail striping tape mani tutorial

Pin It Now!
On to the nail stuff!

I know when I posted this mani, some of you asked for tutorial on how to do it. It is really rather simple and I figured I'd add a couple of photos to show how I achieved this look. You can use any combination of colours to do it, I just picked purple and white.
First I started with the base colour, in this case it's Island Girl Aloha Luau, see full swatch post HERE. I topped it off with Seche Vite and allowed it to dry.
Next I used nail striping tape, if you're not familiar with it, I posted about it HERE. I placed the tape the way you see in the photo below, in a random pattern, but you can place it to make any pattern. Make sure to press it down all around the nail so that nothing can seep underneath.
Next I used white lacquer and sponged it on like you would a gradient mani. If you're new to doing a gradient, I posted about how to achieve the look HERE. Once you've sponged to your desired look, remove the tape pieces one by one to ensure you don't smudge the gradient before it's completely dry.
This is the finished manicure after the clean up (with a brush and acetone), I added another coat of Seche Vite. Hope this helps those of you who asked about hot to do this look, any questions, just ask.
Till next time!
