On to the nail stuff!
Would you like to see a mani that makes me happy? This one turned out so awesome that I've been staring at my nails all day, I'm lucky that I didn't get into an accident while driving. I'm going to call it a Soap Bubble Mani. This is my first time trying nail foils and of course I couldn't just leave it alone, so I stamped over it. The base is Ocean Mist nail foil I purchased from www.dollarnailart.com a good few months ago, but I only got around to trying it now.
To any of you who have tried nail foils, any tips are welcome and I have one question - what type of top coat does one use to make sure the foil doesn't wrinkle?

All photos taken in the shade
For the design I used plate Cheeky CH-9 and I just realized that I haven't posted that set yet, so you'll have to wait to see the plate or google it. I stamped with Wet 'N Wild Black Creme.
In the close ups you can really see the imperfections of where the foil didn't stick and it looks like a crack. This is not something you can really see in real life though, it's a macro thing.
What I really love about this foil is that it's so shiny and mirror-like, yet it's a duochrome at angles and if flashes purple more than I can show in photos. I tried. I must try more nail foils! Have you yet?
Till next time!

holy molers!!!! love it!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad, thank you!
DeleteThis looks aMAZING!! You appplied the foils so nicely, this is so gorgeously eye catching.
ReplyDeleteOh this one looks so much better in real life, it's so shiny and mirror like and did I mention shiny?! :D
DeleteFoils omg gorgeous! I have that same problem too, with the foils wrinking );
ReplyDeleteAck! Really? I've only read that girls used slow drying top coat but that didn't work any different than a fast drying one. I wonder if there's a special one or something. I must get the answer! I'm so in love with foils now.
DeleteSoap bubble nails! :)
ReplyDeleteYou're right! I like that name for them.
DeleteLove it when people stamp over foils... You don't see it very often, but I really like it!
ReplyDeleteI don't think I've ever seen it done before. I must try it again.
Deletethis looks totally amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! now I want to try foils too > <
ReplyDeleteThank you. You should give them a try, they're fun.
DeleteOMG I can't believe foils do look like this O.O Impressive!!
ReplyDeleteAnd tha stamping work over it is fitting very well....I believe when you say you couldn't but look at your nails :D
The foils I've seen online are mostly one colour, but there's also a few that have patterns and to be honest when I saw this one before buying it, it didn't look as good in the little swatch the site has. Even in the container it looked just ok to me, then I put it on and did the same eyes you did - O.O
DeleteDid u use the Best Glue Ever by Scrapperfect.com like Robin Moses? I really want to try then but am intimidated by them.
ReplyDeleteNo, I have never heard of it before, I used the glue that I purchased on eBay from the UK. I might have to look into the one you mentioned, thank you.
DeleteOMG. Come on, this in unbelievable, I will share this on Facebook, this looks WOW, amazing. I can not find the word, how much I like it. Great idea that you stamped on the foils, makes this manicure much more special.
ReplyDeleteThank you. I thought it was too, I've never seen stamping over foils before.
DeleteAh yes I love foils too! This is freaking gorgeous!!!!! I'm not sure what type of topcoat people use for foils since as you said they are prone to wrinkling. I know Robin Moses uses them a ton, but she never mentions the topcoat she uses if any at all. I'll have to look into that as well and next time I'm over at DNA I want to pick up this one too!
ReplyDeleteI think you have to wear a top coat over a foil because I found that throughout the day, the foil rubs off without anything over it and at the end of the day you end up with bare nails.
DeleteWow this looks so cool! I want to try foils now too! You make this look so amazing and the added stamping is nice!!!
ReplyDeletewow this is unreal! The stamping plate, reminds me of bubbles and the foil reminds me of the colour you can see in bubbles! CRAZY COOL!
ReplyDeleteFreakin' awesome!
ReplyDeletethe glue under the foil needs to be completely dry before you put a top coat on. otherwise, yes, you get wrinkles. the glue usually takes AWHILE to cure underneath.
ReplyDeletei think it is awesome!
ReplyDeleteLove it! :)
ReplyDeleteThis is so cool! If only there were a polish that came out that colour instead of messing around with foil.
ReplyDeleteI still have not tried foils, but this looks stunning with stamping over it. At first I thought it was part of the foil design. I'm thinking the stamping is a great way to hide any flaws in the foil..
ReplyDeleteOh dear. That website you linked looks dangerous! ;D
ReplyDeleteI am so, so surprised you didn't crash! These are stunning! They look like insect wings :]
ReplyDeleteI love both the foil and the stamping combination! ***Applause***
ReplyDeleteThis is lovely!!! I'm gonna stamp over a foil tonight, it has been decided!
ReplyDeleteloving this combo... you are so talented! I bought Ocean Mist and it's mainly pink, which bummed me out big time. Opal Swirl is my fave foil of the 4 I bought. I tested all of my top coats and found one that worked decently without cracking or crinkling too much - Pro Strong Instant Thickening Top Coat with Fluoride. it looks to wrinkle a but at first, but evens out after it dries.
ReplyDeleteI haven't read all of the comments so I'm not sure what tips you have gotten. I just read this yesterday but haven't done it myself cuz I don't have any nail foils yet. It said to use a thin coat of topcoat and use as few brush strokes as possible. Do not use the quick dry or super shiny topcoats...something about the way they mix with the adhesive for the foils doesn't work well. It said that you may still get some wrinkling but that by the time the topcoat dries it usually smooths down. After that topcoat is COMPLETELY dry you may then use something like Seche Vite or one of the super shiny topcoats. I hope this helps you. =)
ReplyDeleteI want to get some of the foils so bad but the dollar site you have to buy $25 of products! Oh well...some day maybe I will find some somewhere else. Til then I will continue to admire them online lol.
I love these...I have almost every foil dollar nail art makes but stopped playing with them because I hate the chemical reaction that happens when I use ANY topcoat...it really ruins the foils with patterns (esp holo foils!) I have tried EVERYTHING! I have never stamped over these but I think I must attempt this :)
ReplyDeleteOMG, I just love these!!!!!
